Since it cost a lot to win, even more to lose. You and me bound to spend some time wondering what to choose."

— Deal, Grateful Dead

What we're thinking about...

I love this quote because it always puts life into perspective for me. "It cost a lot to win…" It really does. I think of winning as success, and my ultimate success is living a happy life. And we don't talk about this a lot, but that costs a lot. The cost for me:

  • Setting up boundaries and having hard talks with family and friends.
  • Disappointing my family when I decided against law school.
  • Letting people down when I moved to California from the East Coast.

The cost is high to create your own way. But you know what costs even more? Losing.

Losing can feel like not living a purpose-driven life--or not being happy. It could be living life for someone else, letting the cultural and familial expectations hold you back, or a story you're telling yourself about what you should do. 😔

Purpose happens when the internal aligns with the external. But how do you get there? Why is it such a struggle to find our way?

With the start of a new year, we've been thinking about what it means to find your dream job--and how to get there. It starts with dreaming big. And then allowing yourself to dream even bigger. 💫

If you missed our vision-building workshop last month, here is the workbook, and here are the key takeaways:

1) Make time for yourself to plan for this year. ⏱ Get one hour on your calendar, sit down with our workbook, and gift yourself some focused attention. To: You. From: You. 💌

2) Dream BIG. This is not about working backward with what you already have planned and forcing your existing plan into your vision. This is the time to THINK BIG about the things you love and where you want to go. Remember when you were a kid and would lose track of time? What were you doing? What would you do if money wasn't necessary or you had all the resources in the world? 🙌🏼

3) Find an accountability buddy. 📌🗓 This is a friend who will keep you honest and who you can share your goals with. After completing your workbook, text your bestie, work buddy, or cousin and say this... "Hey, I want to be a better me by December and would love your help keeping me honest about my goals! Is it cool if I send you my big accomplishments once a month? You can respond with a 👍🏼, 🏆 or ⭐️. Thanks!"

I hope you spend some time wondering what to choose today!

What we're reading:

The New York Times' Feeling Stuck? Here are 5 Ways to Jumpstart Your Life. Not a subscriber? We got you covered. Here are three key takeaways:

  • Reframe your negative thoughts. “I should have done more today.” → “I did the best I could today, and tomorrow I’ll do more.” This takes practice, so don’t give up.
  • Ask yourself this question right now: “What’s serving you, and what is no longer serving you?” Here’s a quick audit I did, and my honest answer: Scrolling on my phone 2x per day was fun and helpful–articles, friends, etc. More than that, it was a waste of my time.
  • Picture the ideal future you. I know I’ve felt stuck before, so how does “unstuck” me feel? Unstuck me feels more like ease. Here’s what I tried this week: I walked without my phone to “get back to my senses”–smell, touch, look, feel, and taste. This helps me get out of my head and into the present moment.

What can you try today? Do one thing.

👋🏼 Helping you launch and grow your career faster. What we're thinking about... Hi Reader, Today is World Mental Health Day. 🌎 Younger generations are missing work due to stress. A majority of Gen Z--over 54% globally, say they have felt so stressed that they could not go to work during the past year. 😦 The media, our friends, and family (all well-intentioned) tell us to "relax" or "meditate," but what does that mean? I want to love yoga. But, honestly, when I'm sitting still for 45 minutes,...
