Staying in the Pocket: A Mental Health Playbook for Work and an Uncertain Job Market

Friday, July 31, 2026

1:00 pm PT / 3:00 pm ET

Staying in the pocket. ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

It's a term athletes use to describe staying calm and clear-headed when the pressure is on. Lilian Alfaro Cavlan, LMFT, Clinical Director of Mindful Practices, Inc., has spent years helping athletes build that skillโ€”and it turns out it works just as well off the field.

Join us Friday, July 31 at 1 PM PT for a Cura Chat with Lilian on Staying in the Pocket: A Mental Health Playbook for Work and an Uncertain Job Market.

As a bicultural and bilingual, licensed clinician, Lilian offers therapy for families and mindfulness workshops for athletes and leaders. Her approach is strength-based, helping people find hope and grow personally and professionally.

Lilian is also the author of Prevail: A Road Map to Navigate the School System for a Hopeful Future ๐Ÿ“š, a practical guide for students and parents navigating the school system from early years to the workforce. Drawing on her own story as a first-generation Latina student, she wrote it to instill hope in families facing an uncertain path forward.

Lilian works with athletes on nervous system regulation and staying in the pocket, and she's bringing that same framework to the job market and workplace stress.

In this conversation, we'll dive into:

  • Naming the uncertainty.๐Ÿ˜ถโ€๐ŸŒซ๏ธ How long does this kind of stress actually last, and does it ever shift?
  • Recognizing your stress response.๐Ÿ’ก Fight, flight, or freeze, and catching it before it takes over
  • Staying in the pocket.๐Ÿง  Regulating your breath, emotions, and focus the way athletes are trained to
  • Mindfulness at work.๐Ÿ˜Œ Practical tools you can use at your desk, and how to prevail in the workforce during uncertain times

Whether you're feeling the weight of job uncertainty, workplace stress, or just want real tools to stay grounded and live with more ease, this conversation is for you.

๐Ÿ“… July 31 at 1 PM PT. Register here to save your spot!

Hi, it's Jen and Sylvia. We are here to help you launch and grow your career faster. What I'm thinking about... Hi Reader, At Cura, we believe in care for the whole self. And thereโ€™s no better place to practice that than college, a season built for curiosity about who you are, not just what youโ€™re studying.๐Ÿ“š My first year of college wasnโ€™t the traditional experience. Iโ€™m first-gen, my parents are Latino immigrants, and when it came time to apply, they couldnโ€™t help me navigate the system....

๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Helping you launch and grow your career faster. What we're thinking about... Hi Reader, Today is World Mental Health Day. ๐ŸŒŽ Younger generations are missing work due to stress. A majority of Gen Z--over 54% globally, say they have felt so stressed that they could not go to work during the past year. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ The media, our friends, and family (all well-intentioned) tell us to "relax" or "meditate," but what does that mean? I want to love yoga. But, honestly, when I'm sitting still for 45 minutes,...

๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Hi, it's Jen and Sylvia. Welcome to the Cura newsletter that helps you launch and grow your early career faster. What we're thinking about... Hi Reader, August always reminds me of getting ready for my next semester of school. Is there anything more exciting than the school supplies section at Target? ๐ŸŽฏ OK, maybe not. But it can also get overwhelming if you're a recent grad and not going back to school. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ So how do you transition from the structure of academia and begin to think about...
